あせる【褪せる】

1 〔退色する〕 fade; discolor.

●色褪せる ⇒いろあせる.

●教室のカーテンは日に焼けて色が褪せていた. The classroom curtains had been faded by the sun.

・ジーンズは洗濯するたびに色が褪せていくところがまたいいんだな. What I like about jeans is the way their color fades each time you wash them.

・藍色が褪せて縹(_はなだ)色になった. The indigo faded to a light blue.

・それは色の褪せた背表紙がいかにも古そうな本だった. It was a very old book, its color-faded spine bespeaking its age.
